An out of warranty laptop gets the same diagnosis and the same written quote. What changes is that you now have a real choice, because a genuine part, a compatible part and a tested used part are all legitimate answers depending on the machine’s age and what you use it for.
Sometimes the honest answer is not to repair at all. If the quote is approaching the value of the laptop, we say so. There is a longer version of that reasoning in repair or replace.
First we log the machine and note its physical condition with you standing there. Then an engineer opens it and tests the suspected parts rather than guessing from the symptom. After that you get the fault and the price in writing.
Nothing is ordered and nothing is fitted until you agree to the quote. Most walk in diagnoses take under twenty minutes. A dead board takes longer, and in that case we call you the same day with the result.
